Tax Policy

Most precious metal bullion sold in Canada is exempt from GST/HST. This includes with bars, ingots, coins, or wafers consisting of gold, silver, or platinum. They are refined to a minimum purity of 99.50% for gold and platinum, or 99.9% for silver.

Note: HST/GST affects palladium items.

Ontario charges 13% HST, if bullion or coin products fall short of certain purity criteria. Bullion and coins are also liable to Capital Gains Tax both in Ontario and in Canada.
